How to improve your internet speed

  • Restart your router and modem once a week to clear memory and refresh the connection.
  • Place the Wi-Fi router high, central and away from walls, mirrors and microwaves.
  • Use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band when you are close to the router; 2.4 GHz reaches farther but is slower.
  • Connect a laptop or TV with an Ethernet cable for the fastest, most stable speed.
  • Pause cloud backups, downloads and 4K streams on other devices while gaming or on video calls.
  • Turn off your VPN when you don't need it — it adds distance and slows speed.
  • Update your router firmware and change to a less crowded Wi-Fi channel.
  • If speed is always below your plan, run the test by cable and share the result with your provider.

How to Use the Internet Speed Test

Close other downloads and video apps, then tap the big START button. The test runs against Cloudflare's worldwide speed servers, usually one in a city near you. The test measures ping and jitter first, then download speed and upload speed, with the needle moving live. It takes about 30 seconds. Your last 10 results are saved on this device so you can compare Wi-Fi, mobile data or different times of day.
